A Brief History of the Citizens Bank

The Citizens Bank was founded in February of 1946. The driving force behind this corporation was Walter Hubert Beall of Andalusia, Alabama. Mr. Beall, in conjunction with a number of local community leaders, organized The Citizens Bank as the second bank serving the City of Enterprise. Mr. Beall maintained control of the bank for several years until it was sold to another of the originalincorporators, Edward C. Sherling and

an employee, D. F. Reaves. Mr. Sherling and Mr. Reaves maintained control of the bank until 1965.

The Citizens Bank was first located on the corner of Main and Grubbs Street with approximately 10 employees. On June 23, 1960, the bank moved to 301 South Main Street of Enterprise. In May of 1968, the bank opened it's first branch office. This office is still located on Fort Rucker Boulevard in Enterprise, Alabama. The bank was one of the first banks of our size in the southeast to be computerized in December of 1969. In July of 1989 the bank moved into its newest building on 301 South Edwards Street of Enterprise.

We appreciate the opportunity to have served our community for over 50 years with quality service as your hometown bank. Our community is our strength and our best investment.
